ODISHA- LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE HEAVY RAINS- INFLUENCE OF FRESH LOW-PRESSURE OVER BAY OF BENGAL

Bhubaneswar,13/09/23: Several parts of Odisha are likely to experience heavy rains till September 15 under the influence of a fresh low-pressure area which is brewing over the Bay of Bengal.

Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over central parts of Bay of Bengal & adjoining north Bay of Bengal; a Low Pressure Area has formed over central parts of

North Bay of Bengal with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km

above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to become more

marked during next 24 hours and move across south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts and south Chhattisgarh during next 3 days.

Now cast Warning (Orange Message(Be prepared),Moderate Rain/Thundershower with one or two intense  spell of rain llikely to affect some districts of Kendrapada,Cuttack,Puri,Khordha,(including,Bhubaneswar),Koraput,Nawarangpur,Kalahandi,Ganjam,Nayagarh and Gajapati within  next   Three  hours.

Water logging in low lying area, occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban area likely. Avoid movement in affected area and do arrangement for drainage of excess water.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday that the low-pressure area would form over the Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours.

The current weather conditions indicate that widespread rains, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, are likely in some districts over the next two-three days, it added.

Heavy rains are likely in parts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Bolangir, among others.

Due to the rains, flash floods and water logging may occur in low-lying areas, while landslides may occur in hilly areas, the IMD said.

In the 24 hours till 8.30 am on Tuesday, the highest rainfall of 208 mm was recorded at Semiliguda in Koraput district.
