Odisha steps up raids against spurious medicines, seizures made at 12 places

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday intensified the drive against spurious medicines, while ‘suspicious’ drugs were seized from at least 12 places in the state.
Health and Family Welfare Secretary Shalini Pandit directed all field officers and enforcement squads to stay vigilant and take action against persons, stockiest, and shops selling duplicate drugs.
All filed officers and enforcement squads were asked to keep a vigil on medicines coming from outside the state, and intensify the raids on all suspicious points, persons, stockiest and shops, official sources said.
Checking is being made for each and every strip in the stores, and the strips found suspicious are being recalled. “Extensive raids are being conducted on regular basis and such actions will continue”, said a senior official of the department.
Meanwhile, suspicious medicines were seized from 6 places in Cuttack, one place in Kendrapara, 2 places in Jharsuguda, and one each in Sundargarh, Bargarh and Sambalpur districts. Legal cases were instituted after seizure of the medicines from these places.
Available information showed that suspicious medicines were seized from V.R. Agency, Puja Enterprises, Kyal agency, Mahabir prasad Radheshyam, Shree distributor, Sri M.H in Cuttack district; Shyam Medical and Amit Agency in Sundaragarh; Ashok medical hall in Bargarh; Durga Agency in Sambalpur; and Sai Traders in Kendrapara.
