Deep Depression Over Bay to Cross Gopalpur Coast on Sunday

Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression and cross the coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur on Sunday.

According to the latest special bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department on Friday night, the low-pressure area over east-central and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a depression and lay centred over east-central and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal.

It is likely to intensify into a deep depression during the next 12 hours and intensify further. It is expected to move initially west-north-westwards during the next 24 hours and west-south-westwards thereafter.

The Met office has forecast that the deep depression will cross south Odisha north Andhra Pradesh coasts between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur around Kalinga Patnam by the evening of September 26.

Under its influence, there will be fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rain in Odisha from September 25 and 28. Besides, widespread light to moderate rainfall with scattered heavy to very heavy rain and isolated extremely heavy rain is very likely on September 26 and 27 in some districts of Odisha, the bulletin said.

Affect some parts of the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Raygada, Nuapada, Nawarangpur and Kalahandi within next three hours. People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike.
