‘Yaas’s Impact Clearly Visible in Rourkela and its Periphery Area; its Severe in Costal Belt

ROURKELA: Yaas has clearly impacted the normal lives in Odisha and especially in coastal belts like Balasore and Bhadrak area and its adjacent areas of Mayurbhanj. The landfall of Yaas has started and will continue for 3-4 hours. As per Mrutyanjaya Mohapatra, DG, IMD, landfall will take at least 3-4 hours and the speed of wind flow which previously predicted 145-165 is herewith reset for 130-155s kmph.
This wind speed will observe near area of landfall. In other districts, speeds of wind storm will not that high rather will observe 60-90kms.
The impact of Yaas has been observed in Kendrapara and Mayurbhanj and the wind speed at present is at 60-90kmph.
The cyclonic storm will continue till this evening in the areas of Bhadrak and Balasore. State Govt. has already evacuated around 60000 people in Mayurbhanj to safe places. In other districts in western Odisha will not impact much rather light to heavy rain fall may be observed. In Sundergarh, rain fall have started and in Rourkela rain fall started since yesterday evening and is continuing till the time of reporting. Vaccination drive and Covid test by Rapid Response team for 26th has been cancelled by the RMC due to impact of Yaas and will resume soon the impact is over. For the cause who had booked their schedule for 26th need not to be rebooked, said Commissioner, RMC.
According to information almost 5000 have been evacuated by the Dist.administration from Nuagaon,Lathikata,Bisra,Koira and Gurundia blocks to protect tem from Yass’s effect cooking food also been arranged for them.

NDRF and ODRFT team is actively working in coastal belt and clearing roads where tree is uprooted. The Hon’ble CM is very much focus on this calamity and competent Govt. officials have been deputed in the districts where Yaas’s impact will be severe. Despite announcements by the State Govt. several times still few people preferred to stay at home than to move to safe places. In many areas in Balasore and Bhadrak area water logging was observed, houses and roads are submerged because of heavy raining. As of now no casualties because of this cyclonic storm is reported.
