WORLD SNAKE DAY OBSERVED IN TALCHER
Talcher , (DHIRAMOHAN RAY) : Talcher Warking Journalists’ Association and People For Animals of Talcher organised an awareness program on the occasion of WORLD SNAKE DAY at Panchayat Samitee Sabha Ghar here at Talcher under the presidentship of Dhiramoh Ray. Talcher Deputy Collector Mansmohan Seth joined as chief guest and said Snakes are an important creature in the creation of nature. They are especially helpful in the eco- balance system of the environment. There are more than three hundred species of snakes in the country, but sixty types of snakes are considered poisonous. Snakes are not our enemies. They are our neighbors in the forest, it is our duty to protect and preserve them. As the chief speaker, Talcher Sub-Divisional Police Officer Bharat Chandra Sahu said that although we are afraid of snakes, snakes also fear us, we should not hurt the snakes. It donot bite. Beating a snake is an offence under the law, for which one can get a fine and a jail term of five years. As the special guest, Talcher Sub-Divisional Hospital’s specialist Dr. Arvind Nandi advised that if a snake bites the person concerned should be taken to the nearest hospital immediately. If you take a photo of the snake that bit you and show it to the doctor, proper treatment can be done quickly. Apart from this, if people who sleep on the ground hang mosquito nets and sleep, there is no fear of snakes at night. The other honourable guests were on dias Dr.Subhas Chandra Sahu, S. D. V. O. Talcher, Major Subrat Kumar Das, Principal of Talcher Auto. College, and Diptaranjan Biswal Principal of Idream Management College, emphasised the importance of organizing Snake Day. Kuna kumar Sahu, Head of Talcher Branch of People for Animals introduced venomous snakes and non-venomous snakes through a projector. He spoke about their behavior and moving. Talcher Working Journalists’ Association felicitated members of People for Animals, forest department, officials and volunteers of different schools and colleges for their selfless service to animals by presenting them with certificates of appreciation. The president of TWJA. Madanmohan Sahu, general secretary Saubhagya Chandra Nayak participated in the program. Journalist Rabindranath Seth proposed the vote of thanks.
