WOMAN DETAINED FOR POSING AS IPS OFFICER IN STATE CAPITAL(?).

Bhubaneswar:Odisha Police on Thursday detained a woman for allegedly impersonating herself as an IPS officer and instructing low-grade cops to supply her essential and non-essential commodities during the lockdown in Bhubaneswar.The woman had allegedly called the police reserve force and pressurized them to change a particular constable’s duty.
She was identified as Ms Sarmistha Behera, She had worn an IPS logo along with her fake ‘khaki’ police uniform (!),live in Forest Park area here, had introduced herself as an IPS officer of 2018-batch and claimed to have been posted at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA) Bhubaneswar.
She contacted some subordinate staff of different stations and identified herself as IPS officer and demanded immediate supply of several essential commodities and other facilities at her doorstep.She also asked the cops to arrange some cash, food and lockdown vehicle passes for her, sources.
A senior police officer said that police personnel raised suspicion on her and informed me and during verification, it was found that she was an fraud.
As the case been held under the Capital police limits, a case against her has been registered at the Mahila police station and is being questioned.
Later, during search in her home, police seized a khaki uniform, fake identity card and a toy gun. Police also seized several photographs, featuring her in fake policing activities and raids.
A notice has been issued to Sarmishta under Section 41 of CrPC and she has been allowed to go.A fake uniform and gun has been seized from her possession.
