Why state governments are wasting money on photo-publicity of political rulers when tax-collection is insufficient to meet other increased government-expenses
DELHI:It refers to full-page newspaper-advertisements in Delhi newspapers on 23.06.2020 now by Chhatisgarh government. Earlier several other state-governments unnecessarily spent heavily on media-advertisements even during lockdown period where sale of liquor had to be opened even to meet extra fund-requirements with negligible tax-collection in lockdown-period.
Unnecessary wastage of public-funds simply for photo-publicity and glorification of political rulers can and must be stopped by banning photos of any political ruler in media-advertisements.
Once,Supreme Court had banned photos of Chief Ministers and ministers in government-advertisements only because original Supreme Court order permitted use of photos of Prime Minister in government-advertisements.
Best is to ban photos of all living personalities including even of Prime Minister in government-advertisements. Photos of living personalities in government advertisements may only be allowed for President of India ant even of state-governors. Significantly the then Chief Justice of India had disallowed publication of his photo in a government-advertisement relating to an event at Supreme Court.
At the same time order dated 24.10.2017 by Madars High Court banning photos of living personalities on banners, flex-boards, signboards etc should be adopted by central government with even further stricter norms for complete country. It has become a fashion to flatter political leaders by putting posters, banners, hoardings etc wishing on their birthdays. This is apart from their god-like glorification for poll and political purposes resulting in defacing of walls through such useless unproductive means.
