Two General Election Completed, Still People are eager to see the Dream Project
BERHAMPUR: During the year 2014 keeping in view of the election, in the state both OLA and Lok Sabha -2014 Honable’Chief Minister,Naveen Pattnaik announced to introduce commissionerate of police at Berhampur.
During the tenure of Anirudha Singh, the Ex-SP, Berhampur, in a press meet he told, Odisha Government has declared Berhampur and Ganjam Police District combined as Commissionerate at Berhampur.
The government would soon issue an executive order. It need not seek approval of the assembly since the OUP Act, 2003, is an enabling legislation for such matters. We are on process the develop the structural data sheet.
One IGP/DIGP cadre officer shall act as Commissioner and under his direct administration one DCP (IPS for H.Q and one DCP,Territorial (IPS).Two additional DCP and 5 ACP shall work.
At Head Quarter 4 ACP shall work under DCP, Territoral.ACPs functionary distributed zone wise and the Ganjam police district included under the Commissionerate administration, he added in press meet.
Under DCP, territorial total required staff strength is 1796 and existing position is 1063.
But after diverted the staffs 100 from Ganjam DPO and 963 from Berhampur DPO the vacancy position is 963 to run the Commisionerate smoothly he said.
Presently, in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are under the Commissionerate of police system that was introduced in 2008 after the enactment of Odisha Urban Police (OUP) Act, 2003 at Bhubaneswar.
Despite Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s announcement to roll out Commissionerate system of police in four important cities (Berhamour,Ganjam,Sambalpur and Rourkela)
Surprisingly the proposal is yet to see the light of the day while two general election completed.
According to the notification issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance department, posts of Police Commissioner for Sambalpur, Deputy Commissioner for Rourkela and Berhampur have also been made land demarcation also processed as per the source.
The information regarding the same has been intimated by State Headquarters of Odisha Police to all the police heads.
It may be noted that amidst the rising cases of crime in the cities, the demand for setting up Commissionerate system has also monumentally increased.
As per reports, the central government had approved relevant posts to under the system for the mentioned cities a year back.
