Wash Hand -District Level Workshop for Media and Stakeholders

Berhampur:The district level learning sharing workshop for media and stakeholders conducted on 22nd September 2021 at revenue inspection bungalow, Ankuli, Berhampur under hygiene and behaviour change coalition (HBCC) project implemented in koraput and ganjam district of Odisha state The main objective is to bring change in hand washing with soap practice among women and children Hand hygiene is the primary measure to reduce infections. A simple action, perhaps but the lack of compliance among the health care providers is problematic worldwide. On the basis of research into the aspects influencing hand hygiene compliance and best promotional strategy new approaches have proven effective. A range of strategy for hand hygiene promotion and improvement have been proposed, and the WHO first global patient safety challenge. “Clean Care Is Safer Care” is focusing a part of its attention on improving hand hygiene standards and practices in health care along with implementing successful interventions. The hand washing with soap (HWWS) is one of the lowest effective measures to prevent CORONA Virus Diarrhoea and Pneumonia related child death. The global reports say more than 5 lakh children die before they attain 5 years of age group year. Every 23 seconds, a child dies from either pneumonia or diarrhoea worldwide that are easily preventable. Over 40% of deaths under five occur within the first 28 days of child life. Every year 25 lakh babies die worldwide within 28 days of birth, which is average of 7,000 deaths every day of these 640 thousand neonatal deaths occur in India and 33% of the neonatal death is due to infections. The infection and death related diarrhoea and pneumonia cab be prevented only through the small changes hand washing with soap. As its highlighted the media and stakeholders play vital role to prevent and create mass awareness on COVID 19 to prevent Diarrhoea and pneumonia related deaths ultimately that will contribute towards reducing of IMR and MMR. As we believe media is the mirror of the society, it highlights the most burning issues vulnerable groups of the society especially women and children. Mothers play most vital role to reduce the diseases and infections through hand washing practices which will turn into behavioural changes HBCC intervention through evidence based and best practice of the project.

To address such issues and create more impact in rural and urban areas many approaches, statergies have been adopted and implemented at various levels. Sri keerti vusan , sub collector of ganjam district address to the participants to accelerate the mass awareness to prevent te spreads of covid 19 and promote hand washing In the workshop 30 no of district media representative of print and electronics participated and the hguest of honour were senior reporter Sri, Manoj Kanta Dash, Berhampur . Mr, Narayan Mahakund Senior editor ON Tv and odisha barta. Mr, Gopal Pattnaik , Sri Sudip Sahu Mrs, Mallick the district social welfare officer , Ganjam Mrs, Pushpanjali Mishra CDPO Berhampur Urban,Mrs, Geetanjali Panigrahi CDPO from chikiti block, school teachers, mothers and child champion along with HBCC staffs. The programme was coordinated and managed by Mr, Sanjeev Kumar Nayak, Project communication and training officer. The dice was managed by Mr, Bidhyadhar Meher, project coordinator of HBCC and all other staff supported for successful of the workshop.
