VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK, 2020 CONCLUDES WITH A WEBINAR ‘VIGILANT INDIA, PROSPEROUS INDIA’ AT CUO

KORAPUT:The Vigilance Awareness Week-2020 observed from 27 October at Central University of Odisha concluded with a Webinar on the theme ‘Vigilant India, Prosperous India’ on 2 November 2020. Prof. Akshay Kumar Rout, IIS, Visiting Professor and Former Director General, Swachha Bharat Mission, Election Commission of India, PIB and Door Darshan News and Sh. Prasana Kumar Dash, IRS, Former Member, CBDT and Special Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India delivered the Lecture on the Webinar.
The Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. I. Ramabrahmam inaugurated and presided over the programme and opined the need of rich vigilance for prosperity. He said “observation of social scientists that development itself generates corruption. It is a collective responsibly of everybody to promote culture of integrity, honesty and transparency”. He further said “the celebration of the Vigilance Awareness Week in the University promotes culture of integrity and also improves efficiency and helps to the development of the country.
As the integrity pledge retreats, it is essential for all of us to be vigilant and commit to the highest standard of honesty and integrity at all times and support to fight against corrupt practices”.
Prof. Rout emphasized on good procedure, good vigilance check, good integrity and use of technology for good check and balance. He compared the corruption as termite and rat. It eats our beds and breads. It undermines democracy, the election systems, the economic development and the constitutional guaranty of liberty and equality. So, vigilance is a humanist issue. Defining vigilance he said “it is matter of consciousness and is a state of mind. Internal vigilance is a price of liberty. It is you; me and every one must be responsible. Vigilances separating correct from incorrect”. He gave importance to need for better transparency for vigilant India and prosperous India. He said “one must be vigilant in his home, in his office, in his region and in his country. Only then the country can prosper”.
Mr. P.K. Das emphasized on value system, transparency honesty and integrity in the institutions. He said honesty and integrity are required for prosperity of the country. Vigilance is an economic necessity for the society. He quoted the work of famous persons like Mahatma Gandhi, Plato and Valmiki and emphasized that transparency is part of vigilance and is the most important requirement for democracy to sustain. Otherwise, it results good people in bad country or bad people in good country. He highlighted the political corruption and highlighting the taxpayers he said all citizen of the country are paying taxes directly or indirectly. So, every one of the country must be vigilant towards development of the country.
As part of the Vigilance Awareness Week from 27 October to 2 November 2020,the Central University of Odisha organized a quiz competition on ‘Vigilant India, Prosperous India’ on 30 October 2020 coordinated by Dr. Ramendra Parhi, DSW I/c. The Vice Chancellor awarded certificate of merit to winners.
Prof. Sharat Kumar Palita, Dean, School of Biodiversity and Conservation of Natural Resources delivered the welcome address and said ‘observation of Vigilance Awareness Week is a part of multipronged approach where all the strategists encouraged the stakeholders to collectively participate in the preventive vigilance measure and fight against corruption.
Prof. P. Durgaprasad, Visiting Professor, Sociology said the students can carry the mantles of transparency and honesty and see that the institutions are governed in the best possible way in his concluding remarks and extended vote of thanks. Dr. Phagunath Bhoi, Public Relation Officer coordinated the Vigilance Awareness Week 2020. Students, teaching and non-teaching staff, media persons and civil society participated in large numbers in virtual mode.
