VETERAN ACTOR, DIRECTOR, BIJAY MOHANTY BREATHED HIS LAST IN BHUBANESWAR

BHUBANESWAR: One of the finest actors of Odia cinema, Bijay Mohanty has breathed his last in Bhubaneswar after prolonged illness. This evening he was admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after having massive health problem. He was survived by his actress wife Tandra Ray and his daughter Jashmine Mohanty. He died at the age of 70 and this loss is a huge loss to odia film industry. He was born in 1950 at Pandiri in Kendrapara and brought up in Baripada, Mayurbhanj,Odisha. He was very passionate about acting since his childhood and had acted while he was in M.K.C High School. This interest took him to National School of Drama in Delhi where many senior actors of Bollywood were his classmate. In 1977 he acted in odia film ‘Chilika Tire’ which won the National Award that year. He did many films indifferent roles as Hero, comedian character roles and villain roles. He was also acclaimed for his negative roles in many films like Naga Phasa, Samay Bada Balaban, Danda Balunga, Sahar Bagha, Chaka Bhaunri and many others. He was a popular face in film industry. He got married to Tandra Ray one of the finest actress and co actress in many films as heroine opposite to him. Many films who had brought him fame are Arati, Mamata Mage Mula, Aei Aama Sansara, Aama Ghara Aama sansara, Ki Heba Sua Posile, Bhisma Pratigya, Bhai Hela Bhagari, Suna Panjuri etc. He had also joined Drama department of Utkal University as a Professor and retired from there in recent years. He had also done some TV serials in Doordarshan include Asara Aloka, Sri Jagannath, Subhadra, Sara Akasa, Samaya chaka, Mahagyan, Bidhatara Khela and few others. He had also tried his luck in politics by Joining The National congress on 27th February, 2014 and subsequently he contested for Lok Sabha seat in General Elections but had lost it. He then resigned from Congress. He had received many awards for his contribution to cinema and they are Jayadeve Award-2014, received National Award for his contribution to art and literature, won Odisha State film Awards six times for Arati, Mamata Mage Mula, Ei Aam Sansar, Aam Ghara Aam Sansara, Bhisma Pratigya and Bhai Hela Bhagari and Orissa Cine Critcs Award in 1987 for Best Actor of the Decade. Many veteran and present actors and actress have sent their condolence messages along with many top brass politicians of the state. Truly he was an actor of substance. Chief Minister Sri Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief at the passing away of renowned odia film actor, director Bijoy Mohanty.
The Chief Minister described late Bijoy Mohanty as a legendary personality who has enriched odia film industry through his versatile talents. He had a long, illustrious career in Odia film. He occupies a very special place in the hearts of millions and millions of fans across the state and outside. His death marks the end of an era in Odia film industry and has created a deep void in the industry. His contribution to Odia films will leave an unforgettable imprint for all the times to come.
