Two Persons Illegally Selling SIM Cards To Foreign Nationals At Gopalpur Port Arrested

Berhampur: Two persons allegedly involved in selling Indian mobile SIM cards to foreign nationals arriving by ship at Gopalpur port in Ganjam district were arrested by the personnel of the Aryapalli Maritime Police.
The accused, identified as G. Shamba of Katuru village and A. Kamyo, who runs a mobile phone shop owner from the same village, were arrested on Thursday.
Around 70 SIM cards of various companies and $22 in foreign currency was seized from the duo.
Shamba works as a foreman at Gopalpur port. He was arrested first by the police and 34 pre-activated SIMs and $22 was recovered from him. His interrogation led to the arrest of A. Kamyo and seizure of 36 more SIM cards.
According to police sources, Shamba purchased SIM cards from Kamyo at a low cost and sold them to foreign nationals at heavy profit. The foreigners were reportedly using these SIMs for WhatsApp calls and data services. They were destroying the SIM cards after use.
