Tribal ailing lady jumps off through DHH’s third floor dilapidated bathroom window and succumbs to serious injuries

Rayagada:During wee hours of last Saturday a tribal lady named Rajani Meleka from Tumbiguda mouza within Rayagada municipality limit jumped off through the dilapidated bathroom window situated in the third floor of District Headquarters Hospital(DHH), Rayagada. According to the ADMO Sri Baradakanta Mishra, Rajani, having fever, mouth sores, anemia and other ailments, was admitted in the bed no-35 of general ward on last 7th July.
During late light Rajani went to bathroom and for hours did not return to her bed. As she was from within the city limits, she did not have any attendant with her. Her co-patients did search for her during early morning and found her body lying in a pool of blood on the ground backside of the lavatories and informed the medical authorities. Police was called to the spot by the medical administration. IIC, Rayagada came and after initial investigation by the scientific team & inquiry, sent the body for post mortem. According to IIC, Rajani might have been under mental duress to commit this suicide. Detailed investigation is still on.
According to some patients, the life of Rajani would have been saved had the bathroom windows been repaired. “Many rooms, wards and lavatories need thorough repair. Generally, suicide is very rare in tribal society. A feud somewhere may also be a cause” said Sri Ajay Rath, a youth social worker of the town.
