TRADITIONAL HANDICRAFT TOWARDS VACCUM LACK OF EMPATHY TOWARDS POTTERS AT MALKANGIRI

Malkangiri: Majhiguda village comprising with 55 families under Potrel panchayat of Korukunda block. All households are traditionally potters. Last 3 generations together they equipped these professions.

From clay they make varieties of product materials & usually selling at nearest Balimela, Kudmulguma, and Chitrakonda and Koruunda blocks. These all handmade traditionally used for all rituals.

They are trained by 20 years back to upgrade their innovative skills supported by government. Due to lack of place of full pledged community hall to make a sustainable platform for their processing.

They are sanctioned 15 years back for a community hall building at their village, but due to lacklustre attitude that community hall is yet to be completed. Neither roof nor concrete floor available rather under sunrays they are carrying their processings.Instead they either at cattlesheds,or near their kitchen or veranda’s in short space.

Badadidi organization healed their problems by supporting through all initiatives. With their efforts they are sanctioned loan under 50% subsidy to Maa Tarini group through Balimela SBI.But their fate still lamented & they are yet to get that amount.

On last Diwali they could sale their products beyond Malkangiri district. Beyond that on education 2 girls are studying in +2,in 10th std 5 boys & 3 girls; in 9th std 3 girls are studying. President of group Kumari Chandrama Majhi quipped that 25 wheel rolls for processing clay & full pledged community hall highly essential to carry on their livelihoods. Samura Khila lamented that they are yet to get caste certificate & cover under housing scheme like IAY,added Kausalya Khila and Sania Kumar.
