Towards self reliance: Utkal Alumina’s enabling women from displaced families

Rayagada (Badal Tah): Utkal Alumina, a subsidiary of Hindalco Industries under the Aditya Birla Group, inaugurated a phenyl production training center at Nuapada, near Tikiri in the presence of company’s CEO Saurabh Khedkar, Cluster Head of Human Resources Dr. Krishna Padhi and Unit Head Ravi Narayan Mishra.

As part of its commitment to community development, Utkal Alumina has set up this phenyl production unit to empower 74 women members from displaced families residing in the R&R-1 colony, by equipping them with skills for financial self-reliance. In the first phase, all women from these families are being provided necessary support facilities and practical training in phenyl production.

Additionally, arrangements are being made to help market and sell the produced phenyl in local & outside markets, ensuring a sustained income source for the women. To facilitate this initiative, raw materials are provided and a master trainer named Santosh Kumar Nanda has been appointed for imparting training.

There has been a noticeable enthusiasm among the women of the R&R colony for this training program. With active participation, the aim is to produce over 500 liters of phenyl daily.
Local residents have welcomed and appreciated this effort of the company to promote self-reliance among women.

The event was graced by Bhaskar Banerjee (Head of Finance), Bijay Kumura (Head of Human Resources), Lopamudra Mishra (Head of CSR), Kiran Nayak (Head of IR) and Pitambar Behera (General Manager, Corporate Affairs & Public Relations). The program was conducted under the guidance of Belakar Nayak, SHM of the R&R Department, with the support of other departmental staff.
