ROURKELA: Rourkela has been in limelight ever since Naveen Patnaik declared that one of the finest hockey stadium is going to be constructed in Rourkela before the hockey World cup to be scheduled in 2023.

Tuesday a team of five members including Chief Secretary, Suresh  Chandra Mohapatra, V K Pandian and Asit Tripathy the newly appointed head of Western Odisha Development Council had visited the proposed Hockey Stadium site inside BPUT area.

This stadium is proposed to be constructed on an area of 15-20 acres of land and will be a stadium of International standard. Since Sundergarh district is the land where many international hockey players have started their career in hockey and have been contributing in both men and women Hockey.

They have supervised the entire area and during this observation, Sarada Nayak, MLA, Rourkela and chairman District Planning Committee and Nikhil Pavan Kalyan were also present.

Many people are on the opine that if stadium is built on BPUT land then the giant institution will lose a major chunk of land for this construction but the same had been denied by the officials visited yesterday by saying BPUT is already having more than 149 acres  of land, hence, keeping aside this 15-20acres approximately wont effect the area and construction of BPUT. Rather State Govt. is taking all care to develop this University to a giant academic centre where many talented students will get the best standard of education.  This new stadium will be equipped with all modern facilities for the sport and will be having flood light, practice pitch, gym, hydrotherapy etc.

All this new projects will certainly push the work of Airport project here in Rourkela which is a mostly demanded project and expectation of the people of Rourkela and its periphery area. Anyways, very soon Rourkela will be figured in internationals sporting event with the game of hockey can create more players in coming time’s
