BMC Additional Commissioner assaulted during grievance hearing(!!)

Bhubaneswar,( 30/06/25): Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahu was allegedly assaulted by a group of people during a grievance hearing on Monday.

As alleged by the BMC Additional Commissioner, some people entered his chamber while a public hearing was going on and caught hold of his collar and assaulted him.

“Five to six people including BMC corporator Jiban Rout entered my chamber while I was conducting the grievance hearing at around 11.30 AM. Soon after entering the chamber, the corporator asked me weather I misbehaved with the Jaga Bhai. But when I refused, the people with him abused and manhandled me. They also dragged me out of my office chamber, beat me and were trying to forcefully take me away in their vehicle,” alleged Sahu while speaking to the media persons.

Meanwhile, protesting the attack on the Additional Commissioner, all the employees of the BMC staged a cease-work protest and demanded action against the accused persons.

BMC Mayor Sulochana Das also strongly condemn the assault on the Additional Commissioner and sought action. ”

It is extremely unfortunate that how an on-duty senior official was attacked. Five-six miscreants barged into his office and attack him by dragging him out of the office.

This shows how the law and order collapsed in the State. All the employees have left their works and are sitting on dharna. They have threatened to continue their cease-work agitation until all the accused persons are arrested,” she said.One being informed, the Kharavela Nagar Police reached the BMC office and started an investigation into the matter. OAS Association President Jyoti Ranjan Mishra announced that all OAS officers would go on mass leave starting Tuesday, July 1, 2025, as a protest against the incident. The association has warned of escalating the agitation, potentially involving other unions, if the government fails to take stringent action against the perpetrators. “Such an attack in the heart of the capital’s key office is unacceptable in a civilised society,” Mishra stated, demanding swift justice.
