THE INTELLECTS ORGANIZES ODIA POETRY SESSION ON THE 78TH ANNIVERSARY OF AUGUST KRANTI

DELHI,10/08/20:Delhi-based Odia intellectuals forum, The Intellects organized an online poetry session, titled Kranti Pain Panktitie (A Line for Revolution) on 9th August, Sunday, to mark the occasion of the 78th anniversary of Quit India movement. The session, organized on collaboration platform Zoom, saw participation of more than 40 poets.

The session which started with noted Odia singer Anindita Das singing Vaishnav jan to, Gandhiji’s favorite prayer, was chaired by The Intellects chairman Debendra Rout.

Dr Prasanna Patasani, former minister and Lok Sabha member joined as the Chief Guest and recited his poem. Noted Odia poet, researcher and Children’s author, Dash Benhur, who was invited as the Chief Speaker, spoke about the meaning of Gandhi’s revolution and how it progressed from cooperation to non-cooperation to finally civil disobedience. He also recited his poem on nonviolence and peace. Dr Amarendra Khatua, renowned Odia poet and former Ambassador of India to Argentina and Chile; Pitambar Tarai, Dalit poet and Sahitya Akaedmi winner, and Krutibas Nayak were some of the o prominent poets who participated and recited their poetry.

Among other poets who participated in the session include Dr Nandini Sahoo, Rakshak Nayak, Kulamani Biswal, Biraja Mohapatra, Dr Ashok Chowdhury, Nagendranath Swain, Rita Nayak, Santosh Kumar Biswal, Bijaylaxmi Nayak and Maitri Kamila. Among the youth poets who participated were Subhransu Panda, Tika Govind, Sujit Panda, Parambrahma Tripathy, Kalinga Kanya, Snigdha Samantray, Paramita Saranagi and Sanghamitra Rath.

Noted playback singers from Bollywood including Charul SIngh from Mumbai, Sandhya Joshi from Bengaluru, Jeet Parmanik from Mumbai sang patriotic songs and enthralled the participants, totalling over 100.

The summarization and concluding remarks were made by Prof Udayanath Sahoo, Sarala Das Odia Chair Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University. Organizational Secretary Dilip Kumar Swain offered the vote of thanks. Other members of The Intellects smoothly managed the program. 

The Intellects has been continuing its activities online even in the midst of the pandemic. It has organized interactive online forums on the issue of migrant labourers and online education in Odisha. The organization also celebrated Raja festival online, with participants joining from across the world.
