TALCHER WORKING JOURNALISTS’ ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES WORLD WATER DAY

 *Clean, pure drinking water is essential to sustain life*

TALCHER : (DHIRAMOHAN RAY) : Water is an invaluable resource for the living world. It is the duty of human society to preserve it. Otherwise it will be impossible for the future generation of human society to carry out the watershed. The theme of this year’s World Water Day, which has been celebrated since 1993 under the call of the United Nations, is ‘Glacier Preservation’ highlights the critical link between upstream water sources and down stream water security. Senior Journalist Debi Mishra was joind in the programme as Chief Guest and Educationist Dr. Kalpana Boity as the chief speaker. As Angul and Talcher both are an industrial area, the level of pollution is quite high and the ground water level is on the verge of disappearing completely. . Talcher city is located on the bank of river.

Therefore, in order to raise the ground water level, it is absolutely necessary for every community to take up the rainwater harvesting project through pipes from their roofs they opined. Dipti Ranjan Biswal,director of iDream Educational Institution joined as guest of honour and said, half of the world’s population gets fresh drinking water through Glacier. But of greater concern is the extent to which snowmelt flows are occurring due to climate change and excess pollution. There is no doubt that if steps are not taken to protect it, it will pose a threat to the people in the future.Activist Sanjib Pattanaik and General Secretary of the Association Saubhagya Chandra Nayak were on dias. Senior journalist Dhiramohan Ray presided over the programme organized by Talcher Working Journalists’ Association at Sanskruti Bhawan Amalapada under municipal area. In the coming days, awareness programmes on water conservation will be held and social workers Kshirod Sahu and Bapi Mohanty will be given responsibilities to organise such valuable programmme. Among others, Vice President of the association Madanmohan Sahu, Bapuji Samal, Educationist Sovagini Devi, Journalist Ravindra Seth, Debashis Parida, Priya Madhab Das, Pradeep Maharana, Develop India chief Sauravini Nayak, Narayan Lal were present and participated in the discussion.
