TALCHER DALIT MAHASANGHA DEMANDS CBI PROBE

Normal life in the Talcher industrial belt of Angul District came to stalemate on Monday during the 12 hour strike In protest against the gang rape and brutal murder of Subhadra Padil a dalit backward classes girl belonging to Kaniha Block under Talcher Sub Division.12 hour Talcher Bandh was called by various social organisations claiming that the criminals should be arrested immediately and given the strictest punishment as per the Indian Constitution. The concerned police station officials who are negligent in their work should be dismissed from their posts. The government should provide Rs. 50,000,000 (Fifty Lakh Rupees) as compensation to the family of Sister Subhadra Padil, as she was the only bread earner of the family. One of her family members should be appointed in a government job and a house should be provided by the government. The road from Talcher Railway Station to Talcher Road Railway Station should be made special and arrangements should be made to install modern cameras. All autos (tempos) and other rental vehicles deployed at railway stations should be registered, and drivers should be allowed to drive after monitoring their criminal record. For the safety of passengers, government buses should be provided from Talcher Railway Station to Talcher Road Railway Station.The complete address of the passengers and the vehicle used by the passengers who will travel from Talcher Railway Station to their destination should be recorded in the office of the Registered Drivers Association. Special rest rooms should be provided for passengers of delayed and cancelled trains. A CBI investigation should be conducted into the rape and murder of Subhadra Padil.

Shops and business establishments of Talcher and Kaniha areas were closed, commercial vehicles including buses and trucks were not played throughout the day. Government and private offices, Banks and other financial institutions were closed during the strike. While NTPC, Kaniha continuied to function normally. However the coal production and dispatch of MCL were partially affected by the strike.
Committee leaders Sasmita Behera, Digambar Garanaik, Keshab Bhutia, Rajkishore Sahu told the bandh as peaceful and successful, adding that people of Talcher voluntarily supported the strike call.
