Bhubaneswar: While considering the surge in the number of people getting affected as well as considering the ever increasing death toll with Covid-19, University Grant Commission has recommended the cancellation of all exams for the class of 2020.The state of Maharashtra has already announced the cancellation of all technical as well as non technical courses.  Odisha too has announced the cancellation of all exams other than that of the technical courses.

Several students of Biju Patnaik Technical University (BPUT) began a virtual protest on social media with a hash tag of #BPUTStopKaroNa. The same caught much momentum when it got the backing from Smt. Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust (SNSMT) Chairman Shri. Suparno Satpathy.  This matter has now been escalated with the positions of power in Odisha as well as with the positions of power in the Union Government of India. From sources this reporter is informed that Shri. Satpathy has personally spoken on this with the Governor of Odisha Prof. Ganeshi Lal who is also the Chancellor of BPUT.

The three basic demands the students of BPUT have is 1) Cancellation of Exams 2) Normalisation option – where the average of all the previous semesters along with the internal assessment is given out as the final grades and 3) Any student wanting to pass  (if has failed under normalisation option) or wanting to better his/her grades be allowed to sit for an online/offline examination on a later date when the Covid-19 situation is better.

Via a tweet Shri. Suparno Satpathy stated that he sincerely hopes for the Positions of Power to realise that the delay in the decision being taken on this matter and the uncertainty around this, is affecting the mental health of many more than those who might catch Covid-19.

It is said that this matter has been escalated with PM of India, with Union Minister of HRD as well as with Secy. HRD GOI , with UGC, with AICTE, with CM of Odisha , with SDTE Odisha Minister as well as with its Commissioner cum Secy.
