State level Conference on THYROID Disorders held at Berhampur by Swasthya Sadan
Berhampur : Today 5th South Odisha Thyroid Symposium, a state level conference addressing various aspects of Thyroid disorders was inaugurated at IMA hall, Berhampur. The conference is organized by Dr Sunil Kumar Kota, Consultant Endocrinologist from Swasthya Sadan, Berhampur in association with IMA (Indian Medical Association) Berhampur. Dr Nihar Ranjan Sahoo was the scientific secretary, who worked in concert with Dr Kota to craft the scientific curriculum. Dr Durga Madhab Satapathy Superintendent, MKCG Medical College was invited as the chief guest where Dr P K Kar, President, IMA, Berhampur; Dr K K Panigrahy, Secretary, IMA, Berhampur Dr Lalit Kumar Meher, Senior Professor in Medicine and Dr Ajodhya Nath Padhy, Superintendent, IMS & SUM- III, Sitalapalli were invited as the guests of honor. All the guests unanimously opined that prevalence of Thyroid disorders is in upswing across the globe including India. Thyroid gland is like a battery in our body, which provides energy to various organs. The thyroid disorders affect people cutting across age, gender having significant implications on functioning of several vital organs in our body including heart, brain, kidney, bone, intestine, reproductive organs. The prevalence is around 9-15%, with females, elderly, the ones with diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, depression being prone to have this ailment. Therefore, periodic update of the doctors involved in care of people having Thyroid disorders is very much important. Simultaneously they requested the doctors to reach out to people in distress in form of education and proper management. Dr L K Meher thanked Dr Sunil Kota and Dr Nihar Sahoo for their tremendous efforts in organizing this kind of scientific event for doctors from South Odisha. Superintendent, Dr Durga M Satapathy requested Dr Kota to continue with his educational activities for doctors and general public alike.There are total of 26 deliberations on different aspects of thyroid disorders and its management to be delivered by academic experts from across Odisha. All total 300 doctors registered for the 1 day long scientific event. Doctors from General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT and Psychiatry attended the sessions. At the end of the inauguration ceremony, Dr Sunil Kota thanked the stakeholders including Dr Anand Sastry, Dr Badri Dandapani, Dr Paresh Mohanta, Dr Gopal Patra, Dr Jitendra Panigrahy, Dr Tikina Behera, Dr Minakshi Muni. He additionally expressed his thankfulness to PG students from MKCG Medical college including Dr Gourahari, Dr Arpita and a number of volunteers from Swasthya Sadan for having contributed selflessly for successful conduct of the event. At the concluding day of the event, a certificate of participation by Swasthya Sadan shall be issued to all the attendees citing 4 credit hours sanctioned by Odisha Council of Medical Registration.
