Speculation Over Bhubaneswar Visit Of Naveen Patnaik’s Nephew Arun After BJD Rout In Odisha Polls

Bhubaneswar: After Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) rout in recent elections in Odisha, all eyes are now set on party supremo Naveen Patnaik to know his next move following the end of his 24-year rule in the state.

Amid various speculations in political circles, Naveen’s nephew Arun Patnaik has reached Bhubaneswar. His sudden arrival in the state capital has triggered fresh speculations in political spheres. Arun happens to be the grandson of legendary leader Biju Patnaik.

Observers do not rule out the possibility of Arun getting ready to take over the leadership of BJD as Naveen’s successor. However, several others are of the view that he may return to New Delhi after comforting uncle Naveen in the aftermath of BJD’s poll debacle.

Arun, son of Naveen’s elder brother Prem Patnaik, arrived in Bhubaneswar along with BJD leader V K Pandian. Both were received at the airport by BJD organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das. They all proceeded to Naveen Niwas, residence of the BJD president in Bhubaneswar.

In the run up to the twin elections, Naveen had made it clear that Pandian is not his political successor. In this backdrop, observers are of the opinion that Arun may be entrusted with the task of leading the regional party.
