SOUTH CO BILLS SHOULD BE SIMPLE IN TARIFF-PER-UNIT ABOLISHING ON ADDTIONAL CHARGES

BERHAMPUR: Electricity-bills are highly confusing and irrational having high proportion of fixed charges over and above tariff-per-unit where fixed charges usually are fifty percent of normal tariff calculated on basis of units of electricity consumed.
These fixed charges should be merged if necessary by raising tariff per consumed unit of electricity to be rational and simple. At least some nominal charge must be there for consumers consuming low units of electricity for whom first 100 units may have nominal tariff of just rupees two (or even rupee one) per unit inclusive of fixed charges. Slabs for domestic use of electricity should also be reduced like 0-100, 100-500, 500-1000 and above 1000 units. Likewise fixed charges should be merged with tariff-per-unit for electricity-bills in respect of shopkeepers, other non-domestic category and industrial use.
Maximum time the meter readers are not coming to consumer door end for reading and many times they are visiting after 10 days as a result the consumer facing extra charges as per the final slab fixed and penalised.
In this regard much Social body sought against SouthCo and demonstrate before the corporate office even no outcome yet from South Co neither the Consumer getting neither his relaxatation on additional days nor the Billing Manager was caution.
Moreover, monopoly power cuts to be avoided unless until it’s an emergency issue, but almost every day they power cuts 4/5 hours by default manner with some plea which needs to be avoided.
