SNSMT marks World Environment Day
Cuttack: Smt. Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust (SNSMT) at 5am on 5 June marked World Environment Day at their petite but iconic address of 9, Pithapur.
Legendary Smt. Nandini Satpathy the then CM of Orissa had marked the first ever World Environment Day. Few are aware of the unparalleled contribution of her’s towards Wildlife Protection Act of India as well as for protection of environment.
The event witnessed a flute (bansuri) concert by Shri. Rudra Prasad Parida. He mesmerised the audience with his art. The event was graced by SNSMT Chairman Shri. Suparno Satpathy as Chief Guest and CMC Commissioner Shri. Bijay Kumar Dash as Guest of Honor.
Speaking on the occasion Shri. Satpathy said “Integrating ourselves with Mother Nature and holistic conservation of environment is the only way forward”. Shri. Dash said “growth of cancer cells is also development, it is important for us to guide development otherwise it can kill us”.
Along with members and volunteers of SNSMT, there were hundreds of NCC cadets who participated in the morning event.Cadet Swati Upadhyaya and Cadet Surya Sankar Ray delivered fabulous speeches and enthused the audience.
To mark the occasion a mango tree was jointly planted by Shri. Suparno Satpathy and Shri. Bijay Kumar Dash.
The enviro division of SNSMT a lead think tank for environmental concerns, on this day launched a mission to plant one million trees. Mango saplings were distributed free of cost to all the attendees and a promise was made by all to plant more trees as well as to stand rock solid for protecting the environment or nature.
