SEIZURE OF ILLEGAL STONE QUARRIES A CONTINUOUS PROCESS, SP, GANJAM

Ganjam: On Sunday the J.N.Prasad PS in Ganjam conducted raid against illegal blasting in stone quarries and seized 325 Pocket of gelatin,02 bundles of detonating fuse, drilling machine, drilling iron rods, a tractor fitted with compressor and other incriminating articles used for blasting purpose & nabbed 03 accused persons.
Illegal stone quarrying has touched a new high in Ganjam district with the mushrooming of dozens of unlicensed stone quarries.
A case in point is the stone quarry at JN Prasad, Purusottompur and Aska under Ganjam police district.
As per the source the stone quarry has not been leased out to anybody, hundreds of truckloads of boulders and gravel are being smuggled to neighbouring states and district.
The illegal activity has been going on under the very nose of tehsil officials for the last one year. Still, the administration neither takes any measures to stop illegal quarrying and smuggling nor has it floated tenders to lease out the quarry.
The residents alleged that a village-level worker (VLW) facilitates those Mafias under 6-T.(Under the Table) (!) and the illegal functioning of the quarry by greasing the palms of officials.
When contacted, Mr Brijesh Ray,SP,Ganjam he said there are booming of illegal quarries in Ganjam.Ganjam police determined to wipe out wihin a short time for which we have instructed to all police stations of Ganjam police district. there will be no quarries which are running illegally.
