Security Forces Uncover Major Maoist Explosives Cache in Kandhamal Forest
Phulbani: Security forces unearthed a massive cache of explosives and tactical gear during an intensive combing operation in Kandhamal district.
Acting on precise intelligence, a District Voluntary Force (DVF) unit located the Maoist dump deep inside the Guma Reserved Forest near Sinahibali village under Belgarh Police Station.
The haul included 564 electrical detonators, 77 non-electrical detonators, remote controls, sensors, battery units, and steel containers—indicating plans for ambushes against patrolling forces.
Kandhamal Superintendent of Police Harish BC confirmed the involvement of a bomb disposal squad that meticulously cleared the area of booby traps before the recovery.
Kandhamal’s rugged terrain has long served as a Maoist stronghold, but Odisha’s intensified surveillance and precision-led strikes are showing results. Authorities believe the cache was part of a broader effort to destabilize anti-insurgency measures and have launched further investigations to trace its origin.
