Bureau,Odishabarta
Bhubaneswar: The Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court here on Monday rejected the bail application of Archana Nag, arrested for honey trapping a high profile Odia film producer and extorting money. The court, which had heard the bail petition of Archana and reserved the judgment on Friday, rejected the bail application.
Archana, hailing from Kalahandi, has been accused of honey trapping several high profile people, including politicians, film producers, directors, businessmen and government officials. Police arrested Archana on October 7 after Odia film producer Akshay Parija lodged an FIR with Nayapalli police station alleging she had recorded some objectionable videos and started blackmailing him.
Archana’s husband Jagabandhu Chand and his associate Khageswar Patra, who are also involved in running the sex racket, are absconding ever since her arrest. Archana’s counsel had contended that the allegations levelled against his client are baseless and sought the detailed case diary. However, the prosecution told the court that if released on bail, Archana would influence the investigation process as she had contacts with influential people. She has been booked under various sections of IPC and IT Act 66 (E) and 67.
After her bail was rejected by the SDJM court, Archana was sent back to Jharpada jail where she had been lodged since her arrest. It was alleged that she used to invite influential people to her house after making friends with them through Facebook and other connections. She would then record the objectionable scenes on hidden cameras and start blackmailing them.
The police, during investigation, found that she was in possession of luxurious vehicles and other items including palatial building worth crores of rupees.
The Opposition BJP has demanded a CBI probe while the Congress has called for a court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the case alleging that several politicians is involved in the case.
