Rayagada, February 16: The development of an area is crudely measured through its socio-economic & cultural indicators. Education, health, agriculture, small scale industries, food security, sports & culture, empowerment of poor, etc play vital role in the development of the area. In spite of several existential issues, developmental activities in Rayagada district are getting increasingly visible. A few months back members of Rayagada Nagarika Mancha, a civic outfit of the district met Collector Swadha Dev Singh and appraised her about the problems and prospects of the district.
Well maintained NH-326 passing through Rayagada town with its street lights creates an image of a tinsel city during night.
To avoid rush at working hours, vehicles coming from Andhra Pradesh & Koraput side ply through a temporary bypass diversion near Siriguda village via Sai International Hotel Road avoiding, traffic, pollution and accidents.
This has also lessened the load on the over bridge, which has become relatively weak warranting a major repair. The dilapidated bridge near JK Pur has been thoroughly revamped facilitating smooth journey of commuters. The road from Amlabhatta leading to Bhawanipatna via Muniguda is under repair. The process for a permanent bypass from Pitamahal via Halua to Rayagada has begun. The inhabitants will soon see a new bridge near Maa Majhighariani Temple. The roads in the district hinterlands by departments like PWD, RD, Blocks are snowballing in numbers.
Interest exhibited by prospective farmer entrepreneurs for farm mechanisation has been all time high.
During a recent agri-fare in the district held in GCD high school ground, this was reflected in the multiple subsidised sale of farm equipments like tractors, multi-crop threshers, power tillers, rotavators, machines for transplanting, broadcasting, reaping, pump sets, etc. To boost the morale of farmers and replicate the farm models, a few farmer entrepreneurs were felicitated by Collector Swadha Dev Singh. Efforts by agriculture, horticulture, watershed, minor irrigation departments in strengthening Pani Panchayats, the democratic farmer bodies at the grassroots, are really laudable. Cultivation and procurement of millets like Ragi have been emphasised.
After a long struggle, the district administration has been able to get back 6.30 acres from the railways for all round development of famous local deity Maa Majhighariani temple. Similarly after a long struggle in different courts of law, 506 acres of ceiling surplus prime land has been restored from the non-functional Jeypore Sugar Company.
This will pave the way for multifarious development of the district like establishment of a medical college, an airport, a working womens’ hostel, a swadhar gruha, a KVK, a model residential english medium school, an outdoor stadium, a centre for disabled(DDRC), a new high school and a college in the town, a new bus stand, a park for children and senior citizens, a herbal garden, etc. The district will be felicitated in national capital Delhi for its achievement in land records computerisation initiative.
In the context of culture & sports, the district is not lagging behind. District administration has recognised a very interior but scenic & religious spot like Minajhola, the convergence point of three very important rivers of the district namely Bansadhara, Chauladhua & Falafalia, by inaugurating the most awaited cultural extravaganza of the district Chaiti. Swadha’s first time initiative of an event management company could save lots of unnecessary expenses as earlier done. The denizens alongwith the senior district officials could witness international hockey match through large digital displays in the recently completed indoor stadium. Construction of a world-class planetarium near Bhakurguda is almost complete and at the verge of inauguration by CM Naveen Patnaik.
After the visit of Railway Minister Aswini Vaishnav, work in Rayagada Railways, which has been declared as Rail Division, has been accelerated. Maa Majhighariani Temple, Paikapada Shiva Temple, Minajhola and many other scenic-religious spots have been recommended to be included in the tourist map of Odisha. The score card of district administration is certainly soaring. A steady growth in this pace will help set a regional balance in the state.
