Regional Executive Director (North) inaugurates GEM at India’s Largest Power Station “NTPC Vindyachal”
Lucknow : NTPC Vindhyachal today inaugurated its flagship CSR initiative, the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2025, in a grand ceremony attended by senior leadership and dignitaries.
The program was inaugurated by Shri N.S. Rao, Regional Executive Director (North),NTPC along with Smt. Vijaya Rao, President, Uttara Club. Also present on the occasion were Shri E. Satya Phani Kumar, Executive Director (Vindhyachal), Shri Rajeev Akotkar, ED (Singrauli), and Shri Anil Shrivastava, ED (Rihand), among other senior officials.
In his keynote address, Shri Rao congratulated the participants for their enthusiastic involvement in the GEM 2025 Workshop and expressed heartfelt appreciation to the parents for entrusting NTPC with their children. He highlighted that 800 girls would be participating in GEM workshops across various NTPC projects in the Northern Region this year.
Shri Rao urged the students to cherish this transformative experience, citing the inspiring success of former GEM participant Kajal Vishwakarma, who achieved academic excellence in her Class 12 exams after studying at the NTPC Vindhyachal township school.
Speaking at the event, Shri E. Satya Phani Kumar, ED (Vindhyachal), emphasized that “GEM is a GEM CSR Activity”—an aptly named initiative under NTPC’s social responsibility efforts. He noted that over 600 girls have successfully completed the workshop in previous years, and the impact has been visibly transformative. “Empowering girls leads to empowerment of society,” he added.
Earlier, Shri Rakesh Arora welcomed all dignitaries, officials, participants, and guests. He shared that its a proud moment to share that the GEM program began its journey at NTPC Vindhyachal in 2018, encouraging the girls to make the most of this opportunity and “fly high to make their dreams come true.”
Ms. Mrinalini, AGM (HR), delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the efforts of everyone involved in organizing the program.The inaugural event also featured vibrant performances by school children, which were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.
The Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) is NTPC’s flagship CSR program aimed at empowering school-going girls from underprivileged communities near NTPC’s project locations. The initiative aspires to nurture young girls into confident individuals who can become catalysts of change—benefiting their families, communities, and the nation as a whole.
