Rayagada, January 22: On Tuesday midnight, under the aegis of Rayagada Area Committee near about sixty armed members of  the CPI(Maoist) beat two labourers mercilessly after snatching the cell phones from them. They were then told to leave the place immediately. Then the red rebels torched four vehicles namely two JCBs, a road roller and a concrete mixture machine at the construction site of a road leading from Naringtola to Gumma under Parsali gram Panchayat of Kalyan Singhpur block in Niyamagiri Hill range.

Budging to the demand of Dangaria Kandh tribals, the RD department was constructing this road with an estimate of rupees ten crores. Earlier also, this ultra left wing did such violent activities twice at that spot registering their protest against road construction.

The Maoists have put of three posters on the trees at the place of the incident protesting the road construction. According to poster, the road is being constructed to facilitate entry of Vedanta mining company into Niyamagiri hills and forcibly suppress the movement of tribals against bauxite mining. Those people would be punished before the “Jan Adalat”- people’s court if they supported handing over Niyamagiri to the Vedanta Company, mentioned the posters.
