Rayagada, July 1: Red rebels have swung into action again last Friday at Deokupuli village within Muniguda Police Station. A group of ultras consisting of both armed men and women numbering more than ten barged into a stone crusher in Deokupuli village during late night and set nine vehicles ablazed including two procleins, two loaders and five haiwas. There is a reign of terror among the locals. They withheld five security guards of the crusher near the entrance gate and snatched the mobiles from them. In a recent incident they hung posters at Parsali village of Niyamagiri hills range where they warned the OPELIP-DKDA project of sheer corruption and the eco-tourism project near Khajuri village.
Under the banner of CPI(Maoist)-Basadhara-Ghumusar-Nagavali Divisional Committee this time the Naxals have just gone beyond simple warning and set ablazed very costly vehicles of the stone crusher. While leaving the spot, they left the posters which mentioned the reasons of burning the vehicles. The said crusher polluting the environment with severe loss to the agriculture, road getting wasted due to movement of heavy vehicles, the villagers losing hearing ability since their childhood because of blasting sound, etc are some of the reasons cited by the ultras for destroying the vehicles. Muniguda police has seized the posters and further been inquiring into the incident.
