RDC Orders Probe After Two Newborns Share Oxygen Cylinder at MKCG Hospital

Berhampur: A high-level probe has been ordered by the Southern Range Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) after two newborns were reportedly administered oxygen from a single cylinder at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

The incident occurred on Monday in the hospital’s super-speciality department during an ECHO test.

The concerned infants included an eight-day-old boy from Ganjam district and a 14-day-old girl from Gajapati district. Both were admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU).

Though, according to sources, both children are currently stable, the breach of medical protocol has raised serious concerns.

RDC has directed an immediate inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the mishandling. MKCG Superintendent Dr Durgamadhab Satapathy has also demanded a detailed report and assured that the hospital has adequate oxygen supply.

The incident has sparked public outrage, with many questioning safety standards. Authorities have pledged corrective measures to prevent such lapses in the future.
