Rayagada Police seizes a leopard skin, contraband and recovers a number of cellphones

Rayagada, March 31: Padmapur police team on getting a reliable information conducted a raid and could be able to detect a leopard skin, 64.3 kgs of contraband ganjaat Narayanpur forest beside NH 326 and arrested the accused persons named Sula Majhi and Nahusan Mallick and forwarded them to court vide Padmapur PS case no-55 U/s-20(b0)(ii)C NDPS Act. The investigation of the case is in progress. In another case within the same Padmapur police limit, contraband ganja weighing 72 kgs was seized near mangrove in village Bahupadar from accused named Nageswar Majhi, who was apprehended in last Friday and forwarded to court vide Padmapur PS case no-56 U/s-20(b0)(ii)C NDPS Act. Rayagada police, after reviewing the CCTV footage, seized 19 smart phones from the accused Gurunath Halava, who was continuously stealing android phone from the premises of District Headquarters Hospital. He was nabbed and forwarded to court vide Rayagada PS Case no-98 U/s 379 IPC.

It may be noted that a leopard skin was seized by Special Task Force(STF) during fag end of May, 2022 near NH 326 near Bangi junction, Ramanguda under Gunupur Police Station. Criminal namely Jayanta Bibar of Bandipanka under Chandrapur Police Station in Rayagada was apprehended. “Rayagada is increasingly losing a lot of wild animals. It is unfortunate that the police and STF are doing the job of Forest deptt, which has miserably failed in protecting the endangered animals like leopards and elephants in Rayagada though amny such incidents go unreported”, said Sri Rabindra Patakhandal, Convenor, Odisha Suchana Adhikar Mancha.
