Rayagada : Serious irregularities have been pointed out in Rayagada Municipality by none other than its Vice-Chairperson Subhra Panda, who recently met the district collector and appraised him about the development deficit cropped up in different wards due to sheer corruption in tender works, sanitation project & other works. She has requested the Collector for immediate and strong intervention. According to Panda, she raised objections mutipe times about double tenders for the same work leading to huge pilferage of Govt money. Because of her action she was not given any responsibility.

“Though Odisha govt has stopped the concept of outsourcing agencies for last few years despite a guideline from the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department, issued vide letter No. 21169 on December 8, 2021, that prohibits new engagement of service providers, the Chairman Mahesh Pattanaik, without any resolution passed by the council members, has gone ahead in engaging an outsourcing agency for sanitation work and illegally appointing sixty workers through huge gratifications”, said Panda, who has given a written complaint to District Collector Asutosh Kulkarni.

According to Panda, as she questioned about these irregularities, a few councillors have formed a syndicate at the behest of one Ex-BJD leader and brought no-confidence motion against her which is unethical and politically motivated. She has been diligently performing her duty for Rayagada people ensuring prompt redressal of public grievances and fostering a healthy working relationship with all council members for which appreciation from the voters are galore, says Panda. Her commitment to her role is reflected in her regular presence at her office, her active participation in all council and official meetings, and her   frequent field visits to address the needs of the community directly, says Panda. So, the no-confidence motion filed against her is entirely baseless and lacks any ethical or factual ground.

She, along with former Minister Jagannath Saraka, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Saraswati Majhi, former Special Development Council(SDC) Chairperson Anusuya Majhi and scores of other BJD leaders  met the Collector and explained him the ulterior motive behind the whole episode. This motion is not an act of democratic accountability but a blatant attempt at political sabotage aimed at disrupting the smooth functioning of our municipality and hindering the delivery of essential services to the public. It is a gross misuse of the democratic process for personal and political gains.Panda said that she would face the no confidence motion and truth will win.
