Rath Yatra, Bali Jatra Included ‘National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage’

Bhubaneswar: The Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri and Bali Jatra in Cuttack have been included in the “National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage” of the the Sangeet Natak Akademi.

This information was shared on X by the Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Dr Arabinda Padhee.

As per the Ministry of Culture, the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) is an initiative to celebrate and safeguard India’s diverse cultural traditions to showcase important heritage elements from different states to promote them at national and international levels.

The Rath Yatra of Puri is already world famous. The Bali Jatra in cuttack that starts on Kartik Purnima is a trade fair of the country commemorating Odisha’s rich maritime heritage and ancient trade connections of Odia traders with Bali and other Southeast Asian regions. This festival is held on banks of the Mahanadi River in Cuttack.
