Bhubaneswar:President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday gave his assent to Odisha Government’s recommendation for compulsory retirement of suspended IFS officer Abhay Pathak.

Odisha Government on December 17 last year had recommended to the Central Government to give compulsory retirement to Pathak, a 1987 batch IFS officer, for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Abhay Pathak and his son Akash were arrested by the State Vigilance department on November 27 last year for allegedly possessing assets worth around Rs 9.3 crore. Later, the Vigilance conducted several raids and detected assets worth around Rs 20 crore from their possession. Both the father and the son are now in jail.

Sources said Abhay was making cash deposits of his alleged ill-gotten money in the bank accounts of Akash. Abhay, who was the Additional PCCF of Afforestation and Planning at the time of his arrest, also allegedly helped Akash to impersonate as the MD of Tata Motors and duped several job aspirants promising them employment in the company.
