Popular Ollywood singer Tapu Mishra Succumbs to Covid

Bhubaneswar: Noted Ollywood singer Tapu Mishra lost her battle to Covid while undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Saturday night. The 36-year-old singer breathed her last at around 11 pm. She was put on ventilator support as her saturation (SPO2) level was fluctuating. The saturation level had dropped drastically during the last two days.
Tapu was admitted to Covid hospital on May 19. As her condition was deteriorating, her family members were planning to shift her to Kolkata for ECMO treatment. Members of her fraternity had started a fund-raising campaign to support her financially. Besides, they had also appealed to the Government for help. The Culture department had sanctioned Rs 1 lakh for her treatment from Artist Welfare Fund.
Tapu had made her debut with Odia film ‘Kula Nandan’ at the age of 16. She was known for her melodious voice and had won several awards. Besides, she used to release her own album songs.
A pall of gloom descended on the Odia film industry following Tapu’s untimely death. Her father had also succumbed to Covid infection on May 10.
