Pollution Control Board Show Cause the Stone Crusher in Nayagarh for Violation of Environment Norms

Bhubaneswar:One stone crusher in the name of Kalia Sandha Stone Crusher has been operating illegally in Gunduribadi Village of Ranapur Tahasil Nayagarh District for last few months. The villagers and students were facing inconvenience due to Noise and Air Pollution because of the Stone crusher running without any pollution control Measures.

On 1st February 2021 based on the complaint petition of the villagers, Darpanarayanpur Gram Panchayat Office has passed a resolution stating that the Stone Crusher will have severe impact on Forest, Water bodies, and students reading in the nearby school, agricultural land as the unit are within five hundred meters of the village and requested the district collector Nayagarh to take action for closure of the Crusher Unit.

Tahasildar, Ranapur has visited the site on 01.03.2021 and communicated to ADM Nayagarh on 4/03/2021 that after due measurement from point to point i.e. from installed crusher unit to village Gunduribari and to upper Primary school is 405 meters and 258 meters respectively.

Forest and Environment Department, Government of Odisha vide order dated 6th August 2010 prescribed the sitting criteria for stone crusher units and the order says that “No stone crusher unit shall be allowed to operate within 500mtres from the established authorized habitations, education institutions, hospitals,

Villagers through their lawyer issued legal notice on 23rd March 2021 to State Pollution Control Board and District Collector, Nayagarh requesting  to revoke the Siting Certificate and Consent To Establish issued to the Stone Crusher Unit and there after closure of  the Unit within 15days.

State Pollution Control Board upon inquiry found that the Crusher Unit has started operation without Consent to Operate order of the Board and in absence pollution control measures for which the Unit was show caused on 30th March 2021 why the unit will not be closed down .

On 6th April 2021, considering the grievances of villages and report of Ranapur Tahsildar, the Pollution Control Board Regional Office, Berghampur has asked the District Collector, Nayagarh to revoke the siting clearance certificate. Villagers are hopeful the polluting unit will be closed for all time to come and can live peacefully as they have been for generations amidst forest and nature.
