PM Modi Embarks on 5-Day Japan, China Visit to Strengthen Ties, Attend SCO Summit
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday set out on a five-day tour of Japan and China, expressing confidence that the visit would bolster India’s national interests while fostering cooperation for regional and global peace.
Modi will first travel to Japan on August 29-30, where he is scheduled to hold summit talks with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba. Highlighting the importance of the visit, the Prime Minister said the two nations would focus on shaping the “next phase” of their Special Strategic and Global Partnership, which has steadily grown over the past 11 years.
Our effort will be to give new wings to collaboration, expand the scope of economic and investment ties and advance cooperation in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors,” Modi said, adding that the trip would also serve to deepen civilisational bonds and cultural linkages between India and Japan.
In the second leg of his journey, Modi will visit the Chinese city of Tianjin on August 31-September 1 to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. On the sidelines, he is expected to meet Xi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Reaffirming India’s active role in the SCO, Modi noted that under India’s presidency, new initiatives were launched in areas including innovation, health and cultural exchanges. “India remains committed to working with SCO members to address shared challenges and strengthen regional cooperation,” he said.
The Prime Minister emphasised that his visits to Japan and China would not only advance bilateral and multilateral engagements but also contribute towards global peace, security and sustainable development.
