PADMA BIBHUSHAN DR. SONAL MAN SINGH DELIVERS THE FOUNDATION DAY LECTURE OF NANDANIK ON ABHINAYA AND ABHIVYAKTI

KORAPUT:In a maiden initiative in Odisha, the first ever 3 day Online Theatre Festival organized by Nandanik, a theatre group based in Koraput, Odisha started today with virtual inauguration through online messages by Shri Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi, Hon’ble Minister for Culture & Tourism, Government of Odisha, Shri Saptagiri Ulaka, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Koraput, Shri Prabosh Rath, Secretary, Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi and Shri Ananta Mohapatra, eminent Film & Theatre personality of Odisha.
Padma Bibhushan Dr. Sonal Man Singh delivered the Foundation Day Lecture 2020 of Nandanik, a theatre group based in Koraput, in virtual mode on Abhinaya and Abhivyakti in Dance. Dr. Mansingh started by recalling her maiden visit to Koraput for a performance and reminisced he beauty of the journey through the eastern ghats en route. She described the concepts of Abhinaya and Abhivyakti and the different kinds of Abhinaya as per the Indian performing arts tradition. She beautifully explained and also demonstrated the use of body and psyche to express the Bhavas and Rasas of performance. Dr Mansingh beautifully exemplified Angika as the outer skin if the fruit while Sattvika being the juice of it. She dwelled upon various concepts of Indian classical performing arts tradition like Nataraj, Lingaraj, Harihara, Chakshoosha Yagna, Astapadi, Rsa Nispatti, Shanta Rasa, Shatha Nayaka, Dheera Lalita, Manodharma among many others. She also described the socio-cultural, psychological & anthropological aspects of dance. She respectfully mentioned the contribution of Shri Sitakanta Mohapatra, noted Odia litterateur whose works she had adapted and reminisced her tuteledge by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. She elaborated the nuances of a theatrical production alerting about the Dosha of exaggeration and use of Iconography. Her hour long deliberation was wide in range covering various aspects of performing art, demonstrative in nature, thought provoking, informative and extremely erudite. Her use of language, similies and examples was exemplary and the lecture was a treat for the rasikas. Monideepa Gupta, Secretary of Nandanik delivered the welcome address and proposed the vote of thanks. Sourav Gupta, Director of Nandanik moderated the session.
The 3rd Asim Basu Memorial Award was handed over to Shri Himanshu Ranjan Satapathy by Bhaswati Basu in virtual mode. The award, named after Shri Asim Basu, late theatre thespian of Odisha and a joint venture by Nandanik and Asim Basu Foundation is given as a mark of encouragement to young theatre artist of KBK region. Ms Subhashri Mishra recited a poem on this occasion and Saumendra Swain, Treasurer, Nandanik presided over.
An E Book titled, Dhemsa Maro Nona, on the activities of Nandanik in Koraput over five years was inaugurated on this occasion by Prof Mrinal Chatterjee, Regional Director, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Dhenkanal. Prof Chatterjee lauded all artists of Nandanik for hosting a barrage of programmes in a remote area like Koraput.
Monideepa Gupta informed that in the next two days 8 plays in 5 Indian languages with two webinars will be streamed through Nandanik’s social media page in online mode.
