Paddy procurement to begin on Nov 21 in Odisha’s Bargarh: Minister

Bhubaneswar :  The Odisha government is set to begin its paddy procurement process on November 21 in Bargarh district, with a procurement rate of ₹3,100 per quintal, marking a significant increase from the previous rate of Rs. 2,100.

Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari announced the decision, emphasizing the state’s commitment to supporting farmers by enhancing the minimum procurement price. The decision followed a high-level meeting held at the State Secretariat in Bhubaneswar.

To ensure transparency, each Mandi (purchasing point) will be equipped with quality control machines to assess the paddy quality, and Cooperative Department supervisors will oversee 4-5 Mandis each.

Additionally, eligible farmers will receive tokens outlining the quantity and procedural details for paddy procurement.

It is pertinent to mention that the BJP government led by CM Mohan Charan Majhi had pledged to procure paddy at a higher price of Rs 3100 per quintal from farmers of Odisha.  This was also written in Odisha BJP’s manifesto during the last assembly election-2024
