Oxford University Professors need to learn from journalists working at ground zero, said Rayagada MLA: Annual Function of Web Media Union Held with Fervor & Enthusiasm
Rayagada : Rayagada Web Media Union (RWMU) organized its Annual Function with much enthusiasm and active participation from working journalists, media professionals, and several dignitaries of the district. The event witnessed a vibrant gathering where discussions on the role of digital journalism in strengthening democracy and society took center stage.
The function was graced by Rayagada MLA Appala Swamy Kadraka as Chief Guest, Senior Journalist Dr. Badal kumar Tah as Chief Speaker, DCC President Durga Prasad Panda as Guest of Honour, Gandhi Institute of Science & Technology (GIST) Chairman Gobinda Prasad Rath, and Centurion University Rayagada Director Dr. Rajesh Padhi. From the Union’s leadership, President Siba Prasad Padhi, General Secretary Guru Prasad Sahu and Treasurer Gouri Shankar Pattanaik were present on the dais.
The program also featured several eminent speakers, with the Chief Speaker Dr Tah sharing insights on truthful, ethical and responsible journalism in the digital era. He said that local web journalists, u-tubers and social media influencers have shown the way to established media houses of Odisha, who were compelled to transform themselves to digital mode. He emphasized that corporate houses and Govt departments must use the expertise of web journos to project their achievements in the district and provide incentives for the job done. MLA Appala Swamy spoke about several challenges faced by the press reporters and vouched that even Professors from Oxford University may have to learn investigative, research medhodologies from the working journalists engaged at ground zero. He advised the mediapersons to continue their tirades against corruption with a concerted effort as a team. All guests on the dais addressed the gathering and highlighted the growing influence of both web and digital media in modern society.
On this occasion, several dignitaries of Rayagada were felicitated for their contributions to the society. A special highlight of the event was the felicitation of journalists representing web/digital, print, and electronic media, recognizing their role in carrying forward the fearless journalism with commitment. The meeting was moderated by Prashant Kumar, who smoothly conducted the proceedings. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by senior journalist Nalini Pani, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and members of the Union. The event reaffirmed the commitment of web based journalists to responsible & ethical reporting and underlined the importance of unity among media professionals in the digital age.
