ORANGE THE WORLD: PALM STAMP TO SUPPORT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Bhubaneswar,27/11/2020:During the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence from the 25th of November to the 10th of December, members of Mahila Shramajeebee Mancha, Odisha, Odisha Shramajeebee Mancha and non-profit Atmashakti Trust contribute to the Orange the World Campaign in Odisha, calling for the elimination of violence against women and girls.
In its 2nd Day of activism campaign, more than 10000 people across17 districts of the stateput palm stamps in walls and banners to promote gender equality and to highlight this year’s 16 days Activism hash tag #organgetheworld.
According to the online research conducted by the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health, 1 in every 3 women in India is likely to have been subjected to intimate partner violence of a physical, emotional, or sexual nature. But unfortunately, only 1 in every 10 of these women report the offence to the police or healthcare professionals, the research report reveals.
We need worldwide support to secure social and legal protection of women to cherish an equal world and it is heartening to note that men have come forward in support of ending gender based violence in the society, said Ms Bibati Mallick, General Secretary of Mahila Shramajeebee Mancha, Odisha.
Heenarani Nayak, Women Rights Activist also highlighted that “online violence against women has emerged as a new form of violence and therefore national and state governments must make laws to end violence against women”.
