One Leopard Skin, One Elephant Tusk and Pangolin Scales Seized by STF;One Held

Bhubaneswar: On the basis of reliable information, a team of STF conducted raid with the help DeogarhForest Officials on NH 49 near Telibani under Deopgarh PS of Deogarh District on 06.01.2022, as a result of which one wildlife criminal namely Madan Kumar Jayapura S/o. Late KartikJayapura of Barghat PS. Reamal Dist. Deogarh was apprehended. During search, One Leopard Skin, One Elephant Tusk and Pangolin Scales (1 kg 770 gm) and other incriminating articles were recovered from his possession. The accused person could not produce any authority in support of possession of the above Wildlife products, for which he has been detained and handed over to Deogarh Forest Officials for legal action at their end. The Wildlife productswill be sent to Wild Life Institute of India, Deharadun for chemical examination. Investigation is on.
Since 2020, Special drive against the wildlife criminals/ poachers have been launched. STF has seized as many as 25 numbers of leopard skins, 13 numbers of elephant tasks, 7 numbers of deer skins, 9 numbers of live pangolin and more than 16 kg pangolin scales with arrest of as many as 55 numbers of wildlife criminals.
