Old Rivalry leads to attempt to Murder in Brahmapur, Odisha; five arrested

Berhampur,(10/03/2026):On Monday i.e 09.03.2026 at noon hours based on the written report of one Ms. Kamal Kumari Nayak, 31 years, w/o: Mahesh Tripathy of Sriram Nagar reported that some antisocial came to her door step of the house and abused her husband and threw bombs, pelted stones and brandished swords trying to attack him(!).
A case was registered by Bada Bazar police against allegedly youths u/s: 296/109(1)/115(2)/351(2)/3(5) BNS/ rw sec 25(1)(a)/27 Arms Act/sec 3 & 4 ES Act.
Based on information, newly posted Inspector-in-Charge Bada Bazar Police station Mr.Ashish Kumar Swain with his action police team guided by well experienced SDPO city immediately rush to the spot and started probe into;
During investigation it came to light that there has been rivalry between Mahesh Tripathy @ Jaki and Rudra Dakua and others since two years which the case matter was valid and slowly reacting. Shortly expiry time knocking.(!).
The Factual is the rivalry originated two years ago during the Ganesh Puja celebrations at Sriram Nagar Main Road. Rudra Dakua and his associates were observing and leading the festival when Mahesh Tripathy (alias “Jaki”) opposed the event’s location. This disagreement led to persistent verbal altercations and hostility whenever the two parties encountered each other.
On March 8, 2026 at around 7.30 PM While Rudra Dakua was standing at Sriram Nagar 3rd Line, Mahesh Tripathy passed by on his motorcycle. Upon seeing Rudra, Mahesh Tripathy allegedly used abusive language and issued death threats.
Mahesh Tripathy subsequently proceeded to Santi Nagar 3rd Line, where he confronted Rohan Dakua (Rudra’s brother), again using Abusive language about his mother and threatening his life.
After Rohan informed Rudra of the threats, Rudra and five associates Sisir Kumar Behera, Santosh Gouda, Kali Prasad Maharana, Manikanta Rath, and Sameer Kumar ,Behera travelled by motorcycle to Mahesh’s residence to demand an explanation.
Mahesh Tripathy and his family were on panic at the first floor but descended to the street. A physical and verbal tussle ensued between Rudra’s group and Mahesh Tripathy subsequently Mahesh Tripathy assualted the youngsters before the group eventually left the scene.
Shortly after the initial confrontation, Rudra Dakua and his associates returned to the residence at Santi Marg, Sriram Nagar, armed with iron swords (Khanda), Kati, and explosives (bombs).
The group pelted the house with stones and detonated bombs(!).
Based on credible information on Monday at late night the police team arrested five hardcore “Bhaina” from a hidden spot.,
They confess their involvement and identity themself after marathon interrogation, and the reason(?).
Scientific team visited the crime scene and collected material evidence which is more essential
They have been identified as ;
- Rudra Dakua (22 years), S/o: Dandapani Dakua of Sriram Nagar, 3rd Line, PS- Bada Bazar, At/Pr: Lanjipalli, Berhampur
- Kali Prasad Maharana (19 years) , S/o: Sankar Maharana of Jagannath Vihar, 8th Line, Sriram Nagar, PS: Bada Bazar.
- Manikanta Rath (22 years), S/o: Late Muna Rath of Panigrahi Nagar, 1st Line, 1st Gate, PS- Bada Bazar, Berhampur
- Santosh Gouda (19 years) , S/o: Sima Gouda of Somnath Nagar main road, PS: Bada Bazar, Berhampur
5. Sisir Kumar Behera (19 years) , S/o: Bhabani Sankar Behera of Tulasi Nagar, 1st Line, PS: Berhampur Town At/Pr: Somnath Nagar main road, Berhampur.
Police team have seized; One Black Colour Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 M/C (without Number Plate) bearing Engine No JLXCRF67011.and Two Iron Swords from their possession.
Police said, one case is registered against Mahesh Tripathy and is under investigation.
