Odisha’s Longest Railway Tunnel Completed In Khurda Road-Balangir Rail Line Project

Bhubaneswar: In a major progress in the Khurda Road-Balangir Rail Line project, Tunnel T-4 between Adenigarh and Charichhak stations in Odisha’s Boudh district was completed on April 16.
The successful breakthrough (daylighting) of the 4,185-metre tunnel is hugely significant as it’s the longest tunnel not only in the ambitious project but also in Odisha.
A total of 226 km of the 301-km stretch in the Khurda Road-Balangir Rail Line project has been commissioned — from Khurda Road to Daspalla on one end, and from Balangir to Purnakatak on the other.
The remaining 75-km stretch between Daspalla and Purnakatak, which includes seven under-construction tunnels, is progressing steadily.
The daylighting of Tunnel T-4 is expected to accelerate the pace of construction and expedite its goal of connecting Odisha’s coastal region with its western hinterland. Once the entire rail line is operational, it will promote seamless travel, regional integration and economic development.
