Odisha Vigilance Nabs TPCODL Engineer for Rs 20K Bribe, Seizes Rs 9.5 Lakh From Home
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Tusharkant Ray, Executive Engineer (Quality) at TPCODL, Bhubaneswar, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an electrical contractor.
According to the Vigilance Directorate, the contractor approached authorities after Ray persistently demanded the bribe in return for issuing a final inspection report, a prerequisite for clearing payment for completed electrical work.
Acting on the complaint, a trap was laid, and Ray was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe at a park near his residence. The entire amount was recovered from his possession and seized on the spot.Following the arrest, Vigilance teams conducted simultaneous searches at three premises linked to Ray. During the raids, an additional Rs 9,53,200 in cash was recovered from his residence.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to uncover the extent of Ray’s alleged corrupt activities.
