Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police will use tabs to collect accident data on the spot by the investigating officers and facilitate timely exchange of information. The State Transport department on Monday handed over 150 tabs to Odisha Police to record the details of motor vehicle accidents under Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) project. The tabs were handed over to Director General of Police (DGP) Sunil Kumar Bansal by Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport department, Bishnupada Sethi.

Speaking at the event, Bansal said, “Data is the key to find root cause of road accidents in the State. This will help to establish an accurate and uniform accident data collection mechanism for improving road safety in the State.”
The tabs will be used by the investigating officers of roadside police stations to maintain database of road accidents. It will be easy for an investigating officer to enter the required information in a tab instead of filling the form manually, the DGP said.

Sethi said the Police and Transport department can work cohesively to reduce road accidents in the State. “Accident data will help us analyse the problem and find solution accordingly,” he added.

Among others, Transport Commissioner Arun Bothra, Additional Commissioner, Transport (Admin) Srinibas Behera, Additional Commissioner, Transport (Tech) Dhananjaya Senapati, Additional Commissioner, Transport (Road Safety) Lalmohan Sethi, Joint Commissioner, Transport (Road Safety) Sanjay Biswal and RTO, Bhubaneswar, Bikash Chandra Choudhury were present.
