Odisha: Lakhs of devotees throng Joranda’s Mahima Gadee as Magha Mela kicks off
Dhenkanal : Lakhs of devotees throng the Joranda’s Mahima Gadee in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district today as the prestigious Magha Mela kicked off today, marking the start of a grand celebration.
According to the Satyamahima Management Committee, the lighting of the ‘Jhada Dwipa’ will take place at 5:20 pm today. Preparations are in full swing, with a grand ‘Jhada Dwipa’ and a generous amount of ghee ready for lighting lamps at the Gadi temple, Dhuni temple, Sunya temple, and other sacred sites.
Wooden firewood has also been arranged in the Dhunikunda, enhancing the festive ambiance.
The rituals for the annual Prabhu Purnima festival were finalized on Sunday night at the ‘Bakladhari Mahima Samaj’ headquarters, under the leadership of Shukadev Baba.
To ensure a smooth and peaceful celebration, the District Magistrate and SP have reviewed all arrangements and deployed 10 platoons of police.
A large number of devotees gathered on Monday’s Trayodashi, with various shops opening in the fairground. Barricades have been set up in high-traffic areas, including at the Gadi Mandir, Dhuni Mandir, and Sunya Mandir.
A strong security plan is in place, with two Additional Superintendents of Police, five DSPs, 12 Inspectors, and other personnel deployed to maintain law and order. CCTV cameras have been installed in key areas to ensure a smooth and secure celebration.
Numerous Mahima Dharma Sadhus, devotees, monks, and pilgrims from across the state are gathering to worship at Mahima Gosain’s Samadhi Pitha, or Sunya Mandir. Mahima saints from both within the state and beyond have also arrived in Joranda.
The three-day festival is expected to attract around 5 lakh devotees.
